MSN Daily One Liner: Malaysia: Pay for Wedding Ang Pow or Bai Kim via Credit Cards
Background: Some innovative guy in Malaysia have placed a credit card machine at the reception desk of their wedding reception (duh) dinner so that guests have another option to "bless" the new couple. Apparently, they are also doing some charity by tying up with the bank so that the "loyalty points" earned from this charging would actually be going to a children's charity. Apparently also, this paying method was also used in some funerals to pay for the Bai Kim.
I think that this is quite an innovative way and I will want to adopt this "alternative" option for my wedding next year...In fact, I am going to have more options of paying - my guests can not only pay by cash or credit card, they would also have the option to pay by NETS, Cashcard and of course the EZLink card. Imagine the convinience of paying by EZ-Link, my guest who takes the public transport now don't need to bring their wallet with the angpow for the wedding, they just simply leave their home with their EZLink card, "beep" on the bus and "beep" at the reception table. In fact, I would see if I can tie up with EZLink and Transitlink to see if my guests can enjoy a "transfer rebate" when they take public transport to my wedding and pay for the wedding via EZLink.
Likely Scenario at the reception desk
My buddy at the reception desk who happens to work at Macdonald's (MB@RD): Hi Sir, your table would be number 12, I understand that you would be paying by EZLink?
Guest: Yes.
MB@RD: (keys in amount into machine). That would be $80 Sir...member?
Guest: (Blur)
Of course, to pay for the wedding banquet and protect myself from cheapo guests, I would do what Carrefour do, place a big sign that says "Minimum Credit Card charge is $80"
*P.S: If you don't get the joke, your should visit Macdonald more often.
