MSN Daily One Liner: Amazing Race New Twist: 2 Part Race

Background: The Amazing Race . now running it's 9th season has got a new twist into its game. Its has introduced a 2 part race contest; contestants who reached a supposely Pit Stop thinking that they have completed the race were given a surprise by host Phil - the race is not over and they have to continue with a race. Imagine how big an effect this new element would provide, one, it could possible change the outcome of the race due to it's extended nature, two imagine how the first team would have felt and three, imagine how the last team would have felt knowing that they were so close to being elimnated. I must give it to the producers who never fail to surprise each and every episode.

In related news, Amazing Race Asia has just extended their registration deadline to 31st March. So if you are interested in joing, head on to the website.

MSN Daily One Liner: Goodbye to RotiBoy and Pappa Roti

Background: Straits times article today that announces that RotiBoy would cease operations soon in Singapore and similar Pappa Roti would do the same.... this marks the end to stalls selling only one kind of kopi bread and proving that you need more than one product to survive in Singapore. half suspect also that its dismise is partly due to the fact that coffee prices have increased...

MSN Daily One Liner: 永不言败: http://ch8c.mediacorptv.com/shows/variety/view/1693/1/.html

Background: I must confess that Mediacorp has done it! It has come out with an orignal realty tv show that uses an unorignal idea which I believe would be a tv hit. The idea is this... put 10 of the realty tv's worst rejects from all the realty tv shows (think Steven "Yellow Underwear" Lim from Singapore Idol, Valerie "Zao Xia" Huang from Project Superstar) together to compete in another realty tv show and what do you get? 10 x William Hung every week on a show that is similar to what you see during the first few selection round episodes of Idol (think of the rejects, sacarsm, laugh till you drop funny bits), plus maybe they will also show the a first few episodes of selection round to select the worst of the worst rejects. The idea is brilliant. KUDOS

Premieres: Wed 22nd March, 8pm Channel 8

MSN Daily One Liner: Kopi-O raise $0.10, such big fuss that ppl complain to CASE

Background: As you might have heard, there is a nationwide increase of coffee and tea prices in Singapore by ..... 10 cents.... due to supposely increase in price of coffee powder , tea, sugar, condensed milk, butter (apparently to roast the coffee) water and cleaning solution (to wash the cups), SCV charges (for you to watch EPL at your kopitiam) electricity (to power that 42" plasma tv at your kopitiam), salary of kopi-soh.. etc
Ppl are complaining that this is a conspiracy and infringes anti-competition laws. CASE is now looking at it to see if there is any ermm... CASE.. to fight for. So what if got? Are they going to haul the kopitiam owners to court? are they going to force the kopitiam owners to revert back the price? My advice... live with it.

On a side note: To kopitiam owners... to win your customer back when you do such an increase, can I suggest you do what the petrol stations do when they increase prices? For e.g

- Give 5% (+ 5% .. duh?) discount and place a big big sign outside your kopitiam to advertise this.
- Implement loyalty points, chalk up 100 points and exchange for extra sugar, extra condensed milk or an extra fishball when you order mee poh, chalk up 250 points and exchange for a free kopi-o or teh-o or THREE extra fishballs when you order mee poh, chalk up 1000 points and exchange for a bowl of FREE MEE-POH when you buy 4 fishballs for $2.50 at the noodle stall.
- Tie up with some credit card companies to earn cash back when you charge the kopi-o / teh-o to the credit card.

MSN Daily One Liner: Malaysia: Pay for Wedding Ang Pow or Bai Kim via Credit Cards

Background: Some innovative guy in Malaysia have placed a credit card machine at the reception desk of their wedding reception (duh) dinner so that guests have another option to "bless" the new couple. Apparently, they are also doing some charity by tying up with the bank so that the "loyalty points" earned from this charging would actually be going to a children's charity. Apparently also, this paying method was also used in some funerals to pay for the Bai Kim.

I think that this is quite an innovative way and I will want to adopt this "alternative" option for my wedding next year...In fact, I am going to have more options of paying - my guests can not only pay by cash or credit card, they would also have the option to pay by NETS, Cashcard and of course the EZLink card. Imagine the convinience of paying by EZ-Link, my guest who takes the public transport now don't need to bring their wallet with the angpow for the wedding, they just simply leave their home with their EZLink card, "beep" on the bus and "beep" at the reception table. In fact, I would see if I can tie up with EZLink and Transitlink to see if my guests can enjoy a "transfer rebate" when they take public transport to my wedding and pay for the wedding via EZLink.

Likely Scenario at the reception desk

My buddy at the reception desk who happens to work at Macdonald's (MB@RD): Hi Sir, your table would be number 12, I understand that you would be paying by EZLink?

Guest: Yes.

MB@RD: (keys in amount into machine). That would be $80 Sir...member?

Guest: (Blur)

Of course, to pay for the wedding banquet and protect myself from cheapo guests, I would do what Carrefour do, place a big sign that says "Minimum Credit Card charge is $80"

*P.S: If you don't get the joke, your should visit Macdonald more often.

MSN Daily One Liner: Singapore Budget Terminal: Opens 26th March, Sneaks on 15-19th March.... Duh

Background: As we all know, Singapore's Budget Terminal is due to open on 26th March with 33% (read: 1) of the budget airlines operating in Singapore sigining on to use it. The developers are allowing ordinary citizens like us to "preview" the airport between 15th-19th March to tour around it and see its facilities if you sign up at their website. In fact, they are even throwing in a tour of the tarmac so that you can have a sense of how it will feel like when you are walking towards the budget plane that is waiting for you at the airport.
